The Renters (Reform) Bill has been published by the government. The Bill intends to bring some fundamental changes to the way in which renting in the private sector will operate in the future.
There are six key reforms:
- Abolition of section 21 no fault evictions.
- Introduction of more grounds for possession to make it easier to repossess properties.
- Stronger protections against unfair rent increases or those designed to force tenants out.
- Introduction of. new Private Rented Sector Ombudsman.
- Creation of a Privately Rented Property Portal.
- Tenants will have the right to request a pet in a property.
